More than 4 000 streetlight-related requests fixed over 14 days

City energy teams fixed 4 098 streetlight-related requests between 9 and 22 October 2024 as part of the streetlight focus initiative that was launched earlier in the year to enhance turnaround times.
‘I’ve continued visiting streetlight maintenance and upgrade projects across the metro and our interventions are paying off. Theft and vandalism still remains at crisis-levels in certain areas and every cent we spend on repeatedly having to replace damaged infrastructure from theft and vandalism, impacts our upgrading and maintenance programme. Area South, which includes the Mitchells Plain area, continues to top the list as a metro hotspot for theft and vandalism.
‘Our commitment is to help create safer and brighter communities, and our residents can help us to do this by anonymously reporting theft and vandalism and send the message that this is not normal or acceptable in our neighbourhoods,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.
